Fixed strategies provide an outcome with a fixed return. You may choose a fixed strategy if you want to collect fixed profits even if the underlying asset price stays flat or drops (as long as it stays above the set buffer price). You would start to lose principal only if the price drops below the cushion level. Typically, once the underlier's price drops below the cushion, your loss will "catch up" and be in line with buying the underlier outright.
